Virtual Exchange Experience
As a part of my Careers in Criminal Justice course at the University of Florida, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with an international student from Ecuador. This experience has allowed me to discuss the the differences between policing and the criminal justice system in the United States and Ecuador. I have learned the drawbacks and benefits of the adversarial and inquisitorial justice systems, and have gained insight into the corruption within Ecuador's prison system. This experience has allowed me to expand my knowledge regarding international criminal justice procedures. I have also learned about the various schooling requirements in order to become a lawyer in Ecuador versus the United States. I have had the chance to build on my curiosity and have expanded my understanding of cultural variations in the criminal justice system.
