Internship Experience

I have had the change to serve as an intern for Mount Sinai Health System in Manhattan, New York. This internship centered around Population Health, and explored the best way to provide health care services to underserved populations in the area. This internship gave me extensive shadowing experience in several realms of the hospital, including Population Health offices and HIV clinics. I gained first-hand experience interacting with patients, creating rapport, and obtaining basic patient information. I also had experience partaking in home visits where health care providers entered the residences of patients and provided various levels of care. Through this opportunity, I gained insight into numerous living conditions and obtained and understanding of the various needs of patients. At the end of the experience, I created a presentation for lead health care providers sharing what I learned through the experience as well as my ideas for improving the care provided by the hospital system.
